 Training

Introduction

FAs in the recent past, there will be no training courses taking place at the home of Peco during 2010. However, our tutor Dr Michael Watts has planned six courses throughout the year, including three new elements.

Model Railway Training Courses 2010

Popular demand has resulted in including courses on Layout Design, Planning, Baseboards, and Landscape for 2010 says Michael Watts.

These important elements have not been offered recently, but many trainees have especially asked for help in these areas. However, the very popular courses on DCC, Electrics, and Trackwork will also be provided during 2010. Michael’s overall long-term aim is to save railway modellers both time & money in planning and building their layout.

Layout – Basics Friday 12 to Sunday 14 February
Baseboard & Landscape Friday 26 to Sunday 28 March
DCC – Basics Friday 25 to Sunday 27 June
Trackwork – Basics Friday 13 to Sunday 15 August
DCC - Decoder Programming Friday 24 to Sunday 26 September
Electrical – Basics Friday 5 to Sunday 7 November

These six courses comprise the 2010 programme of training held in the charming rural village of Tackley, Oxfordshire. Each course is self-contained, and the total contact time is about 20 hours. They each start at 14.00hrs on the Friday and finish at 16.00 hrs on the Sunday. This timing should allow most trainees to travel to the venue Friday morning and back home on Sunday afternoon/evening.

Michael is a qualified teacher and has special experience and expertise in hands-on learning-by-doing training and its assessment. The courses for 2010 will be improved in many respects to provide a higher quality experience in the training, personal support, and domestic arrangements. The maximum number of trainees will be 10 only; more demanding courses will have an additional expert trainer; trainees will be offered post-course support; and the meals will be of a good standard.

Trainees are encouraged to bring their partners; either to attend the course, or to explore the local attractions in Woodstock, Blenheim Palace, Oxford and Banbury.

Course fees include:
Construction materials; loan of tools; file of notes; articles & references; personal advice; follow-up service; light-lunch; tea & home-made cake, coffee & Danish pastries; hot buffet-supper.

A small local hotel can provide overnight accommodation & breakfast – details are provided on the 2010 course brochure.
