New releases for Epoch I include a new version ofthe Prussian P10 (later BR39)
2-8-2 in lined green livery, and to make a suitable
train there will be two sets of KPEV bogie coaches,
one consisting of two third class to diagram Ib4 and
one tri-composite to diagram Ib2, the other providing
a baggage van to diagram IIa10 and a post van to diagram
Bp35. The baggage van has a raised cupola lookout, while
the other vehicles have a clerestory roof and raised
brake house. The sets will be limited editions.
To mark
125 years of the Gotthard line, there is tobe a special
limited edition set consisting of the SBBA3/5 4-6-0
with three bogie coaches (composite,`third, and baggage
van with cupola lookout). The models will not be available
separately.
The limited edition Insider Club model
for this yearis the massive BR53 2-6-8-0 Mallet compound,
designed in detail by Borsig for war service but never
actually built, though some components are believed to
have been produced by 1943. It is paired with the 3’2’T16
condensing tender with which Henschel were then
equipping a batch of the BR52 2-10-0. The model (below)
is, at 143mm, the longest yet made for Z but will negotiate
a minimum radius of 145mm; all driving wheels are
powered from a five-pole motor, and lighting is by
LEDs.
Other DRG Epoch II offerings include the former Prussian G12 2-10-0 as a BR58;
this will be a limited edition.
For Epoch III, there is to be a new model of DB E50 Co-Co electric in green
livery (below), on the occasion of the type’s
50th anniversary.
The limited edition model for the Märklin Dealer Initiative (MHI) will
be the DB SVT 04 (previously SVT 137 Hamburg)
articulated diesel railcar set, depicting the FT231 Montan Express working (top of page).
To commemorate 50 years of the Trans Europ Express (TEE) services in Z, there
will be two limited editions: first is the VT115 diesel train set representing the Saphir service which ran between Frankfurt and Brussels from 1971 to 1978.
This comes in two packs, the first containing the power cars plus one compartment
coach and the dining car, the second with another compartment coach,
a saloon coach, and the bar car to complete the train
(below left). Both power cars are driven, by five-pole
motors.

The second special set consists of the DB E1012 Bo-Bo Bügelfalte electric in red & beige hauling five coaches, the Av4üm-62
compartment first, AD4üm62 observation
car, and WR4üm-62 diner in original
Rheinpfeil blue & beige
plus compartment coach Avüm and saloon
Apüm in TEE red & beige, as the train might have looked in 1967, in transition between
Epochs III and IV (above right).
The Märklin Museum limited edition wagon for this year is a type SSym46
with DB Epoch III markings loaded with a
monumental (in scale) cast bronze reproduction
of Michelangelo’s ‘David’,
as produced by the famous Strassacker foundry
of Süßen
near Göppingen; the pack includes
a VW Transporter van lettered for this
company.
The Insider Club wagon this year (for members only, as part of the subscription)
is a heating oil bogie tank with DB Epoch
IV markings.
The classic Nohab diesel is to be issued in CFL (Luxemburg) maroon & yellow
as a series 1800, with Epoch IV markings.
There is another brand new model for the modernera, the
Siemens-built ‘Hercules’ Bo-Bo diesel, classified
2016 in Austria. The model will be offered both in ÖBB
red livery (below left) and in Dispolok silver & yellow,
with the graphics promoting the television programme ‘Eisenbahn
Romantik’ (below right) - this will be a limited
edition.

For
the American market, there is to be a brand new model
of the New York Central streamlined J-24-6-4 Commodore
Vanderbilt (below).
All Märklin Z gauge locos now have
five-pole motors.
